Telugu pulp covers

In Telugu by HindiRinny2 Comments

Loose and chunky lettering styles on these (presumably) 1970s Telugu pulp book covers. I love the yellow lettering, which plays with the space and shape of the word. In lettering like this, the artist puts a lot of visual emphasis on the vowel and conjunct strokes – compared to most Telugu typefaces, in which the vowel strokes may appear disconnected or secondary to the base characters. So for someone like me, just learning the script, it has a very different look and feel than most Telugu book typefaces and is trickier to read. But gorgeous!

  1. Chastav means ‘you will be dead’, I guess there is another letter before the pa of pamisthe which must have gone inside the binding:)

  2. And the second one reads.. hold ur breath.. ‘enter the jaguar’ 🙂
