Postcards from Nepal

In Devanagari by HindiRinny1 Comment

A great source of handwriting samples from the early 20th century, old postcard collections from the British Raj days can tell the story of exchange and communication around South Asia. This site, Nepal Postal History, has images of postcards for sale – which we can benefit from.

Many scripts can be found on the site, but the above examples are in Devanagari. Notice the undulating, zig-zagging headline style used by one writer. And, whereas in the latin script, we use baseline writing guidelines, in Devanagari, they have guidelines to hang letters from!
